Foundations are now being installed at our new house in Ripon. The reinforced steel cages are designed to protect against any ground movement from gypsum at deep levels.
First phase of this project has been the construction of a new detached garage with a bat loft above. Bats have access through the gable louvre and also special slates and ridge tiles.
Once in place for a season, the ecologist will be able to check the existing house before demolition commences.
The house is located within the Nidderdale area of outstanding natural beauty so architecture:ab have needed to successfully negotiate with Harrogate Borough Council for approval for the replacement of the old farm house with a new dwelling. The new house will maximise the beautiful site with views down the valley. The house follows a fabric first approach to minimise energy use and will even generate it’s own electricity!
Our extension to beautiful cottage set within the Nidderdale AONB has been completed. The wall of glazing maximises the views whilst sitting comfortably with the local historic style of the house.
architecture:ab have gained planning approval for a replacement dwelling set within the Nidderdale AONB.
Set within a beautiful landscape and with views through the valley to the lake beyond, the new eco-house will use reclaimed materials, highly insulated timber frame and on site renewables to minimise energy use.
Our single storey extension in Theale is now complete with one very happy, furry client!
The extension is a single storey side and rear extension with cedar cladding, zinc roof and bi fold doors.
architecture:ab have used the new permitted development rules to gain approval for the conversion of redundant agricultural barns into two dwellings.
Westmount Close, Ripon
This project consisted of a new first floor extension over an existing single storey kitchen to provide a new master bedroom suite. At ground floor a games room was also created with a glazed lean-to garden room.
A striking feature of the master suite bedroom was the large linked velux window to maximise natural light and benefit from the long distance views.
PROJECT DETAILS
Location: Ripon, North Yorkshire
Local Authority: Harrogate Borough Council
Stage: Completed
architecture:ab’s extension to 2 Station Cottages in Masham has now completed.
The project began with a free consultation, as part of the RIBA/Shelter charitable initiative ‘architect in the house’. We talked to the client about their house, how they lived in it and the ideas that they had in mind. Working within a small budget, architecture:ab developed proposals for remodelling the layout of the original house and the addition of a new two-storey side extension. The extension included a split level plan to provide a sitting room that opens out onto the garden.
architecture:ab prepared and submitted both the planning and Building Control applications to Harrogate Borough Council. We carried out all liaison with the Council and coordinated the design with the structural engineer.
In remodelling the garden, our client has uncovered the original stone flagged station platforms that have been covered up since the station closed in 1963.
Westbourne Avenue, Harrogate
We were delighted to be invited back for a tour of the completed extension at Westbourne Avenue, Harrogate. Our Client praised us for listening to their needs and creating a design that has fulfilled everything that they had wanted and more! The extension links the new kitchen with the living room and provides a great dining room that links through the bi-fold doors to the garden!
Architecture:ab have successfully gained planning permission for the extension of a cottage at Gollinglith Foot, Healey, near Masham. Architecture:ab designed a two storey extension with additional lean to single storey extension. In addition we have submitted proposals to reinstate the original form of the outbuildings. Whilst in keeping with the historic form, large contemporary windows have been included to the side elevation to maximise views along the valley.
Architecture:ab carried out a feasibility study before designing a couple of options. The options were discussed with the client before the final scheme was selected for further design development. Architecture:ab have prepared all drawings and managed the planning application, including all negotiation with Harrogate Borough Council.
